6 Types of Metal Finishing
LAPPING
A polishing process in which two surfaces are rubbed together with an abrasive between them, by hand movement or using a machine.
PASSIVATION
The process of treating or coating a metal in order to reduce the chemical reactivity of its surface such as rust.
HONING
An abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on a metal workpiece by scrubbing an abrasive stone against it along a controlled path.
HARPERIZING
High energy mass tumbling process that uses G-forces to finish parts.
TUMBLING
The process of using a high energy vibration machine to generate friction between a chosen media and the product. Applications can be either open or sealed concepts to remove burrs and provide a consistent appearance.
MEDIA BLASTING
The process of removing surface deposits by applying fine beads of media (sand, glass, and others) at high pressure without damaging the surface.
