What are Supercells?
The Chandler concept that promotes efficiency, scalability and price advantage
A “supercell” is the term Chandler uses to describe a manufacturing strategy that utilizes several, multi-pallet machining centers (like the one in the video below) to form a larger bank or cell of machining centers. These supercells can consist of horizontal and/or 5-axis vertical milling machines with each machine having 10 or more pallets, that automatically rotate into the active machining area or spindle. The pallets have the flexibility to either be dedicated to a specific part or to be changed out to produce other parts as needed.
5 Benefits of Supercells
- Dramatically reduced setup time for parts
- Significant improvement in unattended machining time through lights out capability
- Improved efficiency
- Easily scalable
- Pricing & quality advantages
